Honeymoon: Dubai, Day 1

We were taking our first Emirates flight from Male to Dubai. All checked in.



Some lounge time – Amy reading the economist as usual.



Our rings getting a little love – we mostly didn’t wear our wedding rings at Reethi Rah until the evenings when we went to dinner, so Amy missed hers and was happy to have it back.

Time to head to the plane.



We had heard great things about Emirates – they dub themselves as one of the most luxurious airlines in the world. It didn’t disappoint.




We even had our own personal mini-bar by each of our seats and very high-tech remote for the seat and 1200 channels of movie/tv entertainment. Amy was in heaven with all her episodes of 30 Rock.




As we started our descent to Dubai, normally you contend with clouds, but we contended with a sand storm in the air. It made it difficult to see much of anything until we got closer to the ground. A few overhead shots of Dubai – clearly in the desert.




We made it.



We made our way through the crazy passport area which took an hour and drove to the hotel to check in. There was a little surprise waiting for Amy upon check in.

You can see all the cranes in the background – approximately one-third of all the cranes in the world are in Dubai. It is one huge construction project. Logan and Teddy would have LOVED it here – cranes, dump trucks, back hoes and every type of equipment you could imagine. This particular picture is of the Palm Island which is a man-made island with a number of resorts and living accommodations. We were going to be heading to the newly opened Atlantis hotel later that night for dinner.

After a relaxing afternoon at the hotel, we headed to have dinner at Nobu in the Atlantis. Amy was excited to wear her “sexy” dress that Anthony got her as a wedding present. This is in the lobby of our hotel.




Once we got to the Atlantis, we walked around. It was very similar to the Atlantis in Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The place was bustling with people. Once we got to the lobby, we saw an incredible fish tank. It was enormous and full of fish. Anthony marveled at it like a little kid.




It even had a huge whale shark.



Now on to Nobu for some sushi. Neither Amy or Anthony thought it was strange that we were eating raw fish in a desert. Hmmmm……

Sushi always brings a smile to Amy’s face.



But what brings a bigger smile…..ICE CREAM. It was delicious.
