Greenwich, Windsor UK - July 17-18

We decided to stay local this weekend as we were getting a little tired of all the time on the planes. We decided to go to nearby Greenwich which we heard was nice and then the following day to Windsor (home to the famous Windsor castle).

We took a 20 minute boat ride from London to Greenwich, passing under the London bridge.



Greenwich was a quaint nice town. It is home to the royal naval academy, the queens house, and some nice parks.






One of the other sights to see in Greenwich is a very old and very precise clock - "Greenwich Mean Time" is named, in part, because of this clock.



After lunch in the park, we jumped back on the boat to go back to London. We stopped off at an amazing church, St. Marys, in london. No pictures allowed, but this was one of the grander nicer churches we've seen.



We ended the day at the Victoria & Albert museum - in an exhibition on baroque. Very interesting. Then off to dinner and sleep.

Saturday morning, we jumped on a train and headed to windsor which was about an hour away. Upon first arriving in Windsor, we walked up a hill towards the castle entrance. Lucky timing as there was a changing of the guard ceremony.



The castle (the summer home of the Queen and her family) was amazing. Very beautiful from the outside and incredible from the inside.






After the Castle we grabbed lunch and then walked to the next nearby town called Eton. Along the way, we happened upon a few swans (which Amy loved).



After Eton (and attempting, but failing to get into Eton College) We went to Two Brewers for a pint which is one of the oldest pubs in England. Guinness tasted very good.



On the way back to the train, we passed some very shotty construction. Reminded Anthony of someone he knows......



Also on the way back to the train, we saw something that we knew would make Amy's father very jealous......



We had a nice dinner out on Saturday night and hit the sack. Sunday was another great local day. We went to the Spitafields outside market which Anthony's cousin, Deirdre recommended. Lots of vendors selling everything imaginable. We then did an italian tradition - cooked penne and homemade meatballs - Anthony was in heaven and expressed his wish that this be a normal occurence. We ended the day with our first movie in London - Harry Potter. All in all, we had a great local weekend in and around London.
