Pisa, Licca, Montepuccino; Italy - August 24

We decided to hop in a car and take a day’s excursion from Florence to the nearby towns of Pisa, Lucca and Montepuccino. The drive was a nice way to see the Italian countryside in Tuscany – rolling hills, vineyards and olive oil tracks of land everywhere. They have laws which govern what color houses can be, what materials are used, etc so the countryside retains its history and charm. It was a nice excursion.

The first stop was Pisa – famous for its Miracle Square where the Leaning Tower and church is. It was a mad house because this square is really the only tourist attraction in Pisa. It did not disappoint.

The Leaning Tower is, well, leaning.





We decided not to walk up the tower because, again, ITS LEANING. Here is the full square.



We then went inside the church which was nice. It had a huge marble pulpit made by Donetello.




Then across the square to the Baptistery. This building had perfect acoustics – when we were there someone stood in the middle and starting to sing. It was remarkable.



We continued our car travels to Lucca. Amy was strapped in and ready to go.



It was a quaint little town. As all Italian cities have – this one had a big church.



We grabbed lunch and had time for a photo shoot




Lucca had not just one, but two churches (no pictures allowed inside, so we’re only able to show you the outside).




Last for the day, we had a few minutes to stop at a hillside village called Montepuccino which had spectacular panoramic views.




Again, a nice, small quaint town.




OK, back to Florence to freshen up for dinner – our last in Florence. More good food. Amy looked very beautiful.




We got a lot of sightseeing done in four days, art, architecture, people, 4 cities/towns, the countryside and plenty of gelato. A great start to our Italian 2nd honeymoon.
