Prague - May 15-17

We headed to the Prague in the Czech Republic for another weekend trip. We had both heard great things about the city as it is one of the few cities in Europe that didn't get significantly damaged during one of the many wars of the 20th century.

We checked into the hotel and then walked to dinner at Bellevue which had great food and a terrific view of Prague Castle which is lit up at night.



The next day, it was time to see the sights. It started off cloudy but as the day progressed, the sun began breaking through the clouds. First stop, the Charles Bridge which was built in the 1600s and was the gateway to St. Nicholas Church and Prague Castle.



After crossing the charles bridge, we hiked up streets to the Prague Castle which afforded great views of the city below.



We first went into the St. Nicholas church. Anthony loves visting the churches as he usually marvels at the grand nature of the buildings and likes to wonder how they were built for finely so many years ago.



Then on to the castle itself which was dubbed as the largest castle in Europe. It was a sprawling site, but we question the accuracy of that statement.




We then walked down the Golden Lane which was a cute little retail area that had small buildings and narrow streets. Franz Kafka, the author of the Metamorphsis, lived here.



We then took a tour of the Czech senate and the Wallenstein Gardens and Palace which was very nice. We went back to the hotel for some relaxation before dinner. By relaxation, we mean one of the best massages we've ever had!

We had a great dinner on Saturday night at Kampa Park and decided to sit outside on the porch overlooking the river. That was a good idea, in theory, but it did get a little chilly later in the night. Luckily, Kampa Park provided personalized blankets to keep us warm.



On Sunday, we walked to the Jewish quarter and went into a very old Jewish cemetary where over 12,000 people are buried (in a very small area).



We then walked to the major square in the city, Old Town Square, which was bustling with activity on what was a beautiful sunny day.



The clock tower had a very cool, old clock - it told you the time, the date and had astrological signs information.



We then walked back to the Charles Bridge where we caught a boat for a tour of the canels and river. It was a 45 minute ride which gave a few good photo opportunities.



Back to the airport and back to london where continued wedding planning was waiting for us. Next weekend we're going to Dubrovnick in Croatia for the long Memorial Day Weekend. We'll be meeting up with Anthony's cousin Deirdre and her mom, Carole which will be fun.
